This past year has seen Humber College celebrate Catherine Mitro with several prestigious awards.  In the spring Mitro was awarded one of the college’s Innovation of the Year Awards for her work with the Community Music School, in the summer she received a Distinguished Faculty Award for her work as a teacher and Program Coordinator and in the fall Mitro received a Long Service Award for 25 years as a full time faculty member at the college.   A 35-year employee of Humber College, Catherine Mitro has been full time since 1990.  Over the course of her career she has founded Humber’s internationally recognized Community Music School (1980), established a highly successful one-year post-secondary Jazz Performance Certificate program (2003) and co-created Youth Jazz Canada, a national program for exceptionally talented youth.  Catherine has won a number of awards for her work including the TD Toronto Jazz Festival’s Outstanding Contribution to Jazz Award (2006), Humber’s Robert A. Gordon Leadership Award (1999), and an Exemplary Program Award, NCCSC, USA (1996).  In 2010 Mitro was inducted into the MusicFest Canada Hall of Fame and was a 2015 nominee for the Ontario Premier’s Awards for Outstanding College Graduates
